Here are links to some of our favorite Web sites related to garden railroading and small scale, live-steam locomotives.

GARDEN RAILWAYS Magazine

The Web site for the oldest and most widely read magazine on garden railroading. Garden Railways magazine covers all aspects of the outdoor model-railroading hobby, including building and modifying trains, track, and structures; miniature landscaping and railway gardening; small scale live-steam locomotives, and lots of other good stuff.

Small Scale Live Steam Resources and FAQs

This is perhaps the best resource site of its kind on the planet. Manufacturers, dealers, general information, and more.

Gauge One Model Railway Association

The Gauge One Model Railway Association (G1MRA) is one of the oldest large-scale organizations in the world. The Association is dedicated to all gauge-1 modeling, but there is strong emphasis on live steam, particularly British. Excellent organization, good web site.

The Pop-pop Pages

Do you remember the pop-pop boats you played with as a kid? (Or perhaps your parents or grandparents played with them when they were kids.) Well, they're still here.

While this site is not exactly related to what we do, it is too much fun to pass up. There's information on the history of the pop-pops, what makes them work, sources, and even free plans so you can build your own.

The Toenail Ridge Shortline

This is the Web site of Kathy and Phil Creer's extensive garden railroad in Australia. The railroad itself is covered in depth with lots of text and photos and the site also provides a portal to other garden railways down under.

Family Garden Trains

This Web site, constructed by Paul Race, contains a number of articles on garden railroading aimed at beginners that will answer a lot of the novice's questions. The information contained within is well-considered and usually of value.

Southern Steam Trains

Jim Pitts's Aster site. Loads of Aster information as well as a lot of good, hard information on small-scale steam locomotives in general. Articles by well-known steam guys. Plenty to read, see, and absorb.

The Association of 16mm Narrow Gauge Modellers

As implied, this is the official web site of the Association. Find out about the organization and visit the extensive links list of members' sites.

16mm Garratt Owners & Operators Association

If you like Beyer Garratts, you'll like this web site. It's name says it all and they offer a free quarterly newsletter.

Jiri Sajbrt's Shay pages

Jiri Sajbrt, in the Czech Republic, has scratchbuilt a lovely Shay with oscillating cylinders. Find out all about how he did it here. Text is in English and Czech.
